    Road Sense: October-November 2025

    Dear Readers,

As Christmas approaches – a season of hope, compassion, and renewal – we are also reminded of the many families across India who will enter this festive period carrying with them the pain of having lost a loved one to a road crash. In 2023, more than 480,000 road crashes were recorded in India, with nearly 173,000 fatalities. These numbers are not mere statistics; they represent dreams cut short and celebrations forever altered.

Christmas encourages us to pause, reflect, and care more deeply for one another. In a time when road crashes continue to rise across the country, this season becomes a gentle yet powerful reminder that we must strive harder to protect every journey. The rising number of lives lost each year urges us to come together with new commitment and shared responsibility.

The spirit of Christmas in its light, hope, and sense of togetherness, gives us a meaningful direction. It inspires us to demand safer mobility systems, ask for road safety action plans, and push for accountability at every level. With focused effort and strong coordination among policymakers, institutions, and communities, we can move toward a future where fewer families have to endure such a terrible loss.

As we celebrate Christmas and step into a New Year, let us pledge to work toward safer roads and a safer 2026. May this season inspire us to remember those we have lost, support those who continue to be affected, and act with purpose to protect every life on our roads.

Wishing you a peaceful Christmas and a hopeful, safer New Year.
