Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials have suspended nearly 500 driving licenses in the last month in Visakhapatnam. Most common traffic violations are driving under the influence of alcohol, which comprises nearly 50% of all violations, rash driving, driving while speaking on the phone. The recent Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act proposes to increase the fine from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for driving without a valid licence.
